Keeping fit in the city - CBRE x Country Life
A new generation of developments is offering Londoners an opportunity to seamlessly combine a fitness regime with their daily lives
Every new year brings new plans that are either personal, professional or physical—or perhaps all three. Keeping in shape is one of the best ways to cope with the rigours of life in our exciting capital city. Exercise also offers a chance to engage with some of London’s most beautiful open spaces; Hyde Park, Hampstead Heath and Richmond Park are just a few of the beautiful locations that create great opportunities for running and cycling. Add to that the lidos, ponds and lakes and you have a wealth of possibilities close to home. There are plenty of other opportunities, too; take advantage of the rapidly evolving network of dedicated cycle routes, which include both Superhighways, for those in a hurry, and Quietways for those who prefer to travel at a more gentle pace.
For those with time to spare, Transport for London offers guidance on seven planned routes that offer the opportunity to explore the length and breadth of London’s most scenic areas. There is also the choice between keeping your own bike or the convenience of picking up a Santander bike, as and when you need one.
Increasingly, there are also possibilities even closer to home. Time and logistics can be the two biggest hurdles to achieving an effective exercise routine, so a gym, a pool or even a race track a few steps away from your home give you the chance to effortlessly mix an exercise regime with work, rest and relaxation.
Many of London’s most desirable new developments provide facilities that will simplify the life of anyone keen to keep fit, by offering the luxury of being able to add a work out or 30 lengths of the pool onto the beginning or end of a busy day. Throw saunas and steam rooms into the mix and you have
the blissful prospect of a spa experience just minutes from your front door.
