Farringdon Area Guide
The Central London neighbourhood of Farringdon offers easy access to the rest of the city. The area is a fun, smart and vibrant district that is still growing and has much to offer residents, including a variety of pubs, restaurants and coffee shops. Farringdon is also home to the ancient Smithfield mear market, which is London’s only remaining wholesale market, and has been in operation since medieval times.
Farringdon is a historic area located near the City of London that is represented today by Farringdon within and Farringdon without. The neighbourhood is located between Clerkenwell, St. Paul’s, the Barbican and North London, along with portions of Little Britain Street and St. John Street.
It is also home to University College London, as well as the London Underground’s Farringdon Station, which has been rebuilt and is now served by the Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines. Farringdon Road, which connects Kings Cross to Elephant and Castle, is also located in the neighbourhood.
