The Location

Acton is located in west London positioned between Shepard's Bush and White City and part of the London Borough of Ealing. Acton offers a range of transport links within a convenient location, and is seen to be one of London's most up-and-coming areas to live.

The History of Acton

Acton was originally an ancient village during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The name Acton means Oak Town and derives from an Anglo-Saxon name suggesting their settlement during the Saxon times.

Residential home growth was slow. In 1801 there were only 241 inhabited houses, mostly surrounding the High Street but also in East Acton. During the 1920's Acton saw major industrialisation, with the introduction of many businesses like Wall's Ice Cream, Napiers Cars and more. Mainly concentrated in the Acton Vale and Park Royal estate areas.

Living in Acton

Those who live in Acton already are a mix of young professionals and families. This West London gem caters to all types of movers, with offerings fit to suit all.

Although situated moments from Shepherd's Bush Acton remains an area with plenty of green space. Acton Park offers a range of activities, which include Tennis courts, basketball, and football courts as well as bowling green and community art projects. Gunnersbury Park also has two play areas, a cricket square, and 20 football pitches.

Acton high street has a range of stores to choose from, with an Oaks shopping centre holding plenty of everyday essential stores. Acton central offers a number of supermarket stores that include Morrisons, Lidl, and Sainsbury's local plus many local favourites to enjoy a coffee or dine at.

Acton is a very well-connected area with transport links from seven railway stations into central London and outer London boroughs. Acton Town Station allows for easy access into King's Cross via the Piccadilly line, or into east and central London via the district line.

You can also travel towards north London by catching the Overground from South Acton or Acton Central Stations. Central London is a short underground journey via the Central line from any of the stations in West Acton, North Acton, or, East Acton. North Acton Station offers Central Line services towards White City and Ealing Broadway or towards the West End through Oxford Circus and Tottenham Court Road. Finally, Acton main line station provides services into Paddington by London Overground as well as Bond Street, Canary Wharf, or Heathrow Airport via the Elizabeth Line.

Acton has a variety of well-performing schools available. The most popular choices consist of Ark Priory Primary Academy (Ofsted rated outstanding) and John Perryn (Ofsted rated good). Alongside many other primary and secondary schools, making it an ideal location for families to live.
